This is an extremely strong material composed of carbon atoms aligned to form microscopic fibers (5 to 15 micrometers in diameter).
Several thousand carbon fibers are rolled together to form a strand, which can then be used as such or woven and amalgamated using an epoxy resin. This assembly is characterized by its exceptional pulling and compression strength despite its very low density (1.7 to 1.9).
Carbon fiber is used to strengthen composite materials and for all applications that require great mechanical strength at reduced weights. It is also highly appreciated for its exceptional flexibility, its properties as an effective conductor of heat and electricity, its temperature resistance and its chemical inertia (except with respect to oxidation).
