Mozambique ebony (Dalbergia melanoxylon or African Blackwood) is a hard, dense tropical wood, with a lustrous appearance, that comes in colors that vary from dark Bordeaux red to black. It is mainly used by lute makers and to make wind instruments due to its excellent acoustic properties and its nearly total impermeability to moisture.
