Snakewood (Brosimum guianense) is a Guianese precious wood belonging to the Moraceae family. Its reddish-brown tiger striped wood is extremely dense (it does not float) and may resemble the patterns found on snake skin. This is what gives it the name Snakewood in English and Schlangenholz in German. It should not be confused, however, with the snake wood from Guiana that is less dense. Another name is amourette.
